Advanced Cinematography
Lighting for cinematography goes far beyond basic exposure, however, into the essence of visual storytelling. Lighting contributes considerably to the emotional response an audience has watching a motion picture. Lighting contributes considerably to the emotional response an audience has watching a motion picture. There are two types of lighting there is back lighting which is where the source of light comes from behind the person and there is little light. The other type of lighting is angle lighting which include, high key lighting where the light is shinning down on someone this might give the image that they are an angel in a film or king someone powerful this is to give the image to the audience that they have power.
One aspect of cinematography that strongly separates it from still photography is the ability to move the camera, which represents the audience's viewpoint or perspective, during the course of filming. This movement plays a considerable role in the emotional language of film images and the audience's emotional reaction to the action on the screen. Techniques range from the most basic movements of panning and tilting, craning (moving the camera in a vertical position; being able to lift it off the ground as well as swing it side-to-side from a fixed base position), and combinations of the above.
There are many angle shots for example a close up which shows the characters emotions this usually takes up the whole frame. Major characters are often given a close-up when they are introduced as a way of indicating their importance. Leading characters will have multiple close-ups. There is a long-standing stereotype of insecure actors desiring a close-up at every opportunity and counting the number of close-ups they received.

Here is a picture with some different examples including : Two shot
                                                                                      Over shoulder shot
                                                                                      Mid -Shot
                                                                                      Close up
                                                                                      Shot-Reverse-Shot

  1. The research you have provies a good insight into how lighting and cinematography can be used to complement each other. Nevertheless this should be written in your own words to show your understanding. You should also relate your findings back to the thriller genre and state how your research will influence your final piece.
